What I Learned About Scammers, Revenge & Modern-Day Avengers (Feat. Kitboga)

If you’ve ever had your mom forward you an email from a “Nigerian prince” or your dad call in a panic because his computer “got hacked,” you’re going to love this one.

On the latest episode of Raising Tech, I sat down with Kitboga: YouTube legend, master scam-baiter, and (unofficial) modern-day Avenger. I’ve had his videos playing in the background during more late-night email marathons than I’d like to admit. Talking to him live? Next level.

Here’s what stood out:

Scams Have Evolved (and They’re Scary Good)

Gone are the days of “go buy me a gift card.” Today, scammers impersonate Fidelity, Charles Schwab, even the police, and they’ll walk someone through liquidating a retirement account.

And the wild part is that some organized crime groups are ditching drugs altogether because scamming is easier and less risky.

We talk a lot about infrastructure at Parasol, but this conversation reminded me that education and awareness matter just as much.

Yes, I Got Scammed

Confession time: I’ve been duped. A Venmo request came through from a friend before a bachelor party. Name matched. Profile pic matched. Perfect timing.

$150 gone in seconds.

Kit asked if it was random. Maybe. But it was a good reminder that all it takes is one click. One assumption. One “this looks fine.”

How Scammers Really Win

Scammers don’t just hack machines, they hack brains.

Urgency. Authority. Emotion.

Even if you’ve read the articles and think you’re ready, the right setup at the wrong time can get you. Kit shared stories of scammers calling people back after police were already in their homes because they still had remote access to their computers.

Remote access is powerful. Without the right controls, it’s dangerous. That’s why we help communities lock it down, monitor it, and train people to use it safely.

AI: Friend and Foe

Of course, we had to talk AI.

Scammers are using it to sound more convincing, spoof voices, and customize attacks. The good news is that AI is also helping us.  Kit uses it to automate scam-baiting. We’re using it at Parasol to optimize engagement, streamline operations, and spot red flags before they spread.

My Favorite Takeaway: Be a Modern-Day Avenger

You might not be baiting scammers on YouTube, but you can be someone’s shield.

  • Educate a grandparent.

  • Double-check that “urgent” email.

  • Tighten up your organization’s policies.

Kit said it best. His revenge leaves people smarter, not bitter. That’s the exact culture we’re building in senior living too: empowering people with knowledge, backed by strategy, to stand strong in the face of chaos.

TL;DR

  • Scammers are smarter. You need to be too.

  • Remote access = double-edged sword.

  • Tech culture isn’t tools. It’s how people think.

  • Revenge is sweet when it’s educational.

  • And yes… verify all Venmo requests.
